[Citrix] Unrecognisable proxy server

Fresh install of a Linux system and trying to connect to the remote host by Citrix gives the error (in German) but the meaning is the one of the title.
I suppose Schroeffu's solution is just a work around however, it works for me:
Put the following line into the section
[WFClient]
of file
~/.ICAClient/wfclient.ini

ProxyFallback=yes
I did not try out its alternative.

[Subversion] Meta data format version of the working copy

For all the versions (I think as of version 1.7) that store the meta data not any longer in files but in a SQLite database, the entries in .svn/format or .svn/entries are plainly wrong. They might be a left over of previous client versions.
You need to execute
PRAGMA user_version
against the working copy database .svn/wc.db.
You can do so with  DB Browser for SQLite or on the command line
sqlite3 .svn/wc.db "PRAGMA user_version"
I found this at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19265363/find-out-svn-working-copy-version-1-7-or-1-8

Meta data format version Client version
31 1.8.x
32 1.9.x

[jEdit] not-empty files files without text, files do not open without error

Symptoms

All of a sudden, not knowing what went wrong, I could not open any files any longer without getting an error; two files that were open, displayed no text even there ought to have be text. jEdit was utterly unusable.

Solution

I reverted to previous setting files set out of the settings-backup directory.

[Citrix Receiver/ICAClient] Windows 10 client very laggy

Symptom

The laptop to which I connect side is on Windows 7 but my local machine is on Windows 10. I previoulsy connected from the Linux client on various distributions and the connection just was fine. The notorious mouse pointer shadow is disabled and no theme on the laptop side.

"Cause"

It seems that Windows 10 handles TCP stuff espacially its windows size.

Try

playing around with the autotuning settings. By default it is set to normal.
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=highlyrestricted
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=restricted
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
Details at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731258(WS.10).aspx
Be aware, however, it might have negative impact on other TCP using applications!
However, this did not easen my pain with Citrix.

[Citrix Receiver/ICAClient] Connection dialog frozen

Setup

  • Windows 10 Home
  • dual screen setup (one on HDMI set to main by Windows settings, one on VGA of the onboard graphics)
  • Citrix Receiver 4.8 (4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 sport the same behavior)
  • Connection to Citrix session over web link downloaded in browser

Symptom

The Citrix Receiver process freezes at connection dialog and has to be kill by process management.

Work around

  • Either use VGA screen as main screen
  • Or deactivate VGA screen

[Citrix Receiver/ICAClient] SSL error 61

Problem

Funny enough the Citrix receiver does not integrate well into several Linux distros with Firefox (probably other Mozilla browsers too) even though the package from Citrix has been taken to install ICAClient. It happens that SSL error 61 is frequent after a vanilla installation. This usually means that certificates are missing. To integrate the certificates provided by the browser you could link them to ICAClient certificate folder. Be aware that if the browser certificates change place or name this solution probably breaks. You also could copy them into the ICAClient certificate folder eating up more disk space. I will link.

Cause

The certificates provided by the ICAClient are not sufficient, i. e. not present, revoked, outdated, malformed, broken, ...

Citrix client tested

  • 13.4 (seems to be broken, but this problem was not the thing for breakage)
  • 13.5 (seems to be broken, but this problem was not the thing for breakage)

OpenSUSE Leap 42.2 (probably since 13.1)

Credit
sudo ln -s /usr/share/pki/trust/* /opt/Citrix/ICAClient/keystore/cacerts/

Ubuntu

Credit
sudo ln -s /usr/share/ca-certificates/mozilla/* /opt/Citrix/ICAClient/keystore/cacerts/

All

Apparently this is not necessairy: Credit
sudo c_rehash /opt/Citrix/ICAClient/keystore/cacerts/

Actually

In my case this was not sufficient. Even though Firefox provided SwissSign certificates, I had to download the PEMs again from SwissSign Root or SwissSign CA. Firefox's were "broken" (see list above 😉). I put them in /opt/certificates_downloaded as root, root writeable and world readable, linked them analogously to the Firefox's above and rehashed. Probably only SwissSign CA is needed as I came accross this phenomenon on Windows 10/Firefox too. There I had to download the Gold G2 2006 certificate in DER format and install it using the context menu in Windows explorer.
